The 2026 NFL Draft is just over a week away. Teams around the league are scrambling to put the finishing touches on their draft boards. They are also making calls to set up potential trades that could happen on draft day. One NFL insider suggested that two NFC East rivals could be fighting over the same player at the top of the draft.
NFL insider Jordan Schultz reported on Tuesday that Dallas is rumored to be interested in a player who New York also wants.
“There’s a belief among teams at the top of the draft that the #Cowboys, who have picks at #12 and #20, are a team to watch in trade-up scenarios, according to multiple league sources,” Schultz posted on Tuesday. “Several teams have said they believe Dallas is targeting a player the #Giants also covet, and getting ahead of them would be ideal if the price makes sense.”
The Cowboys could make a push to trade up past the Giants in order to steal that player. After all, Jerry Jones has draft ammunition burning a hole in his pocket.
It is impossible to know which player is the subject of this rumor. But it is fair to assume that it is a defensive player based on the strength of this year’s class. Also because the Cowboys had a pathetic defense in 2025.
If Dallas wants to make a move, multiple teams could be open to trading down.
“There are several teams in the top 10 interested in trading down, but the issue they’ve run into, and believe will persist, is a lack of interest from teams in moving high 2027 picks, per sources,” Schultz added.
This should be one fascinating subplot to watch during the opening picks of the draft next week.
