The Indianapolis Colts are continuing the trend of signing players who are retired from the NFL. After bringing back Philip Rivers for a potential playoff run at the end of last season, the Colts are now signing a former safety who played for the Los Angeles Chargers. This is a total Chris Ballard move.
Nasir Adderley played four seasons with the Bolts before retiring from the league at 24 years of age. Now 28 years old, Adderey is making his NFL comeback.
In four seasons with the Chargers, Adderley eclipsed 232 tackles (168 solo) with 0.5 sacks, two forced fumbles, three interceptions, and 12 pass deflections. It’s unclear as to why he decided to retire, but we have seen many cases in the NFL where players are dealing with too many issues outside of the sport. It’s great to see him get another chance in the league, because he was an elite safety in the NFL and during his time at Delaware.
Adderley played free safety alongside Derwin James (SS) for four seasons. That is likely going to be the position he plays with the Colts if he were to make the team in August. He is a former playmaker who can help the Colts secondary as they now hope to contain a healthy Sauce Gardner.
The Colts also signed safety Jonathan Owens earlier in the offseason, husband of the famous athlete Simone Biles. Biles shared her reaction to Indy bringing in Owens.
“No Friday the 13th scaries here,” Biles wrote via her Instagram Stories on Friday, March 13, reposting the news that Owens, 30, signed a one-year contract with the Indianapolis Colts. “So proud of you, baby.”
