The Dallas Wings shut down questioning about No. 1 draft pick Azzi Fudd’s personal relationships.
She has yet to take the floor in North Texas, but the Dallas Wings helped Azzi Fudd register the first rejection of her WNBA career.
Fudd appeared in Wings gear for the first time on Thursday, introduced as a member of the team that made her the top pick of the 2026 WNBA Draft three days prior. A fair amount of hype centers around Fudd reuniting with Wings franchise face Paige Bueckers: not only did the two guide UConn to its most recent national title, but last summer on TikTok Bueckers basically confirmed they are in a relationship, although neither has officially spoke about the relationship recently.

One reporter attempted to ask Fudd how she and Bueckers planned to “negotiate [the] dynamic” of being teammates while engaging in a personal relationship. A Dallas staffer verbally stepped in, acknowledging, “why [the reporter] to ask that question” while offering a “respectful decline from “comments on our players’ personal lives.”
While Bueckers and Fudd stand as major faces of women’s basketball, they’ve mostly kept their personal relationship out of the spotlight since its announcement. Bueckers was in attendance at The Shed in New York when Fudd officially followed in her footsteps as the top WNBA Draft pick, earning the honor in a rare year where there was no consensus No. 1 choice.
Fudd’s Player Has Done All the Talking
Bueckers and Fudd are hardly the first two WNBA players in a relationship to play on the same team: Diana Taurasi played 13 seasons with her current wife Penny Taylor while Chicago Sky legends Allie Quigley and Courtney Vandersloot wed during their shared time in the Windy City in 2018. It’s thus perhaps a bit surprising to see such a glaring spotlight turn over to Bueckers and Fudd, whose original friendship dates back to their high school days.
It’s equally hard to believe that Fudd’s play wouldn’t be reason enough to select her at the top of the board.
A fair amount of professional hype followed Fudd even before she donned a UConn jersey, as she became the first sophomore to win the Gatorade National Girls Basketball Player of the Year Award and also won the Morgan Wooten Player of the Year title from the 2021 field of McDonald’s All-Americans (Bueckers also earned both honors).
In Storrs, Fudd overcame several injury interruptions to become an All-American. She would later take home the Most Outstanding Player title during the aforementioned national championship run. Her arrival in North Texas gives the Wings a formidable backcourt trio that also features Bueckers and the newly-resigned Arike Ogunbowale.
Bueckers and Fudd have every right to keep their personal lives personal. For the time being, the Wings will opt to let their play do the talking once they’re ready to take the floor.
