49ers GM John Lynch urges other teams to ‘give us a call’ about Brandon Aiyuk trade

The San Francisco 49ers did not have a strong showing during the 2026 NFL Draft. San Francisco’s draft class has received criticism from national analysts immediately following draft weekend. To add insult to injury, 49ers GM John Lynch had to speak about one of the team’s other frustrations during a recent interview.

Lynch made the team’s stance quite clear on a possible Brandon Aiyuk trade following the draft.

“No new update right now,” Lynch told reporters when asked about Aiyuk’s status on Sunday, per Ari Meirov. “We’re available, give us a call. Like I said earlier, I think it is the prudent thing to do. He’s an extremely talented player, he’s been an extremely effective player in our league. The situation didn’t work itself out here, that’s not to say it cannot be rekindled somewhere else. We’d be happy to do something with anyone if the opportunity presented itself.”

Lynch also added that the team won’t release Aiyuk anytime soon.

Ideally, the 49ers would have traded Aiyuk during the draft so they could draft picks they could use right away. Instead, there is still no resolution to the situation.

Aiyuk did not play a single snap for San Francisco in 2025 after signing a $120 million extension before the 2024 season. He suffered a major knee injury during the 2024 season.

Aiyuk’s time in San Francisco is seemingly over, which leaves a trade or release as the only options moving forward.

The Commanders were once viewed as the ideal landing spot for Aiyuk. However, both sides are at a stalemate in trade negotiations. At this point, it is unclear if Aiyuk will ever be traded.

Aiyuk’s status will be one subplot that 49ers fans should keep their eyes on throughout the summer.
