Ty Simpson stunner gives Rams bottom-3 draft class according to Dane Brugler

The Los Angeles Rams were one of the most controversial teams during the 2026 NFL Draft. Los Angeles shocked the NFL by selecting QB Ty Simpson at 13th overall. They have received mixed reviews about that selection ever since.

The Athletic’s Dane Brugler ranked every team based on their draft class in his latest article. Brugler was not kind to the Rams, ranking them 30th in the NFL. The only teams lower than the Rams were the Broncos and Jaguars.

He listed Simpson as his favorite pick, but did explain that he was not a big fan of the move.

“I didn’t love the Simpson pick, especially at No. 13. But of the Rams’ five selections, he was probably my favorite — there is a very realistic path for him to become a quality NFL starter,” Brugler wrote. “We can revisit this in three years …”

If Simpson was his favorite pick, it makes sense that the Rams are so low on his list.

The Rams are a Super Bowl favorite ahead of the 2026 season. Many fans and analysts hoped that LA would use the 13th overall pick on a player who could help the team win a championship right away. Simpson offers immediate insurance at the quarterback position, but he could easily play zero snaps during his rookie season.

Brugler also listed sixth-round pick CJ Daniels as one player who surprise fans.

“There were only two options to choose from here, and I lean toward the offensive weapon who could see early playing time,” Brugler added. “Though I don’t think Daniels has a difference-making trait, he has a package of skills that’s easy to appreciate.”

Ultimately, Simpson’s fate in the NFL will determine how LA’s 2026 draft class is remembered.

It will be fascinating to see how Simpson performs during training camp and the preseason later this summer.
