Jets rumors: Insider shuts down Ty Simpson possibility in first round of NFL Draft

The New York Jets are looking for help after a disastrous 2025 season. While the Jets are reportedly looking for a quarterback early in the 2026 NFL Draft, one insider is throwing cold water on the idea.

“Daniel Jeremiah, just now on a media conference call, says “all signs” that he’s aware of point to the Jets waiting until 2027 to draft their QB of the future. In other words, he’d be surprised if they take QB Ty Simpson at 16,” ESPN reporter Rich Cimini posted to X, formerly Twitter.

Jeremiah hosts the Move the Sticks Podcast, and is an NFL Network Draft analyst.

Some mock drafts have linked Simpson to the Jets. Simpson played the 2025 college football season at Alabama, where he helped the Crimson Tide reach the College Football Playoff. Alabama lost in the CFP to Indiana.

Currently, the Jets have the no. 2 overall pick in the 2026 NFL Draft, as well as the no. 16 pick.

Jets need help in multiple areas

New York is led by head coach Aaron Glenn, who struggled in his first season in 2025. The Jets won just three games during the campaign.

The team is looking for help on both offense and defense. New York’s defense failed to record a single interception during the 2025 season. The Jets are expected by many analysts to take a defensive player with that second pick.

Based on what the Jets have done so far, that may not actually be the case.

“Looking at the Jets’ top-30 visits, it’s not hard to figure out which positions they’re targeting. They’ve hosted several wide receivers and edge rushers, most notably DE David Bailey, LB Arvell Reese, DE Zion Young, WR Makai Lemon and WR Chris Bell,” ESPN reported.

New York fans are eager to see what the team does in the upcoming draft. It has been more than a decade since the Jets reached the NFL Playoffs.
