There have been plenty of questions about Dallas Cowboys receiver George Pickens, even though Jerry Jones claims there’s a long-term plan with the team. And as far as a trade goes, Stephen Jones said the Cowboys haven’t received any interest, according to a post on X by Todd Archer.
“Stephen Jones said on @1053thefan that so far the Cowboys have ‘had no one call with interest in George Pickens,’ regarding a potential trade.”
Of course, that answer begs a question. What is the Cowboys’ asking price? It hardly seems like anybody would be calling to offer multiple first-round picks, no matter how good Pickens played last season. But if the Cowboys have a reasonable price, it would be surprising that no team has tested the waters.
Will the Cowboys find harmony with WR George Pickens?
Of course, the old Cowboys are very likely to beg Pickens to play on the one-year franchise-tag deal. Everybody in Dallas probably realizes this is the year the team could threaten the Super Bowl. One such old Cowboy is Emmitt Smith, who fought the fight against Jerry Jones back in 1993.
“Take the one-year deal,” Smith said. “At the end of the day, bet on yourself.
“George loves football. That’s the one thing about it: ‘Don’t change your love for football. Don’t get into the business mind of this.’ He played last year on a one-year deal for not even that much. If he can go for $30 million, whatever it is now — that’s the same thing I got when I was franchised. Hey, go do it.”
But Pickens has the right to think about his future. The Cowboys will still be the Cowboys long after he’s gone. So, should Smith, or any other old Cowboy, tell Pickens to “bet” on himself?
That bet includes injury, something that Pickens has no control over. And it includes the game plan, which Pickens can’t control. The bet includes good targets from Dak Prescott, which Pickens can’t control. And it can include team success, which Pickens can help, but can’t control.
It’s the long-term guaranteed money that might matter most to Pickens.
