The Arizona Cardinals got their guy in the first round of the 2026 NFL Draft. Arizona grabbed Jeremiyah Love with the third overall pick, validating all of the pre-draft rumors connecting him to the Cardinals. One team official made a bold statement on why the Cardinals felt confident taking Love so high in the draft.
Cardinals general manager Monti Ossenfort explained why the team selected Love with the third overall pick.
“It’s the person, it’s the player,” Ossenfort said on Thursday night, per Cardinals team reporter Dani Sureck. “[Love’s] an explosive player, been highly productive the last two years in both the run and the pass game. Really adds a multiple dimension to the offense. And a great person, about the right stuff. We’re just excited to get him here and add him to our offense.”
The Cardinals now have a loaded backfield with Tyler Allgeier, James Conner, and Trey Benson backing up the superstar rookie.
Love enters the NFL with a chip on his shoulder. He wants to set a new standard for running backs after being selected so high in the first round.
“I have the opportunity to really set a new standard for running backs,” Love said on a conference call, per the team website. “We’ve already had Saquon, we’ve had Bijan (Robinson, picked 8th in 2023), we’ve had Ashton Jeanty (6th in 2025), and now you have me. It’s my job and my duty that when I set foot in Arizona I do what I gotta do to represent in the right way.”
The combination of Love, Marvin Harrison Jr., and Trey McBride is an excellent set of weapons for Arizona to build upon.
It will be exciting to see how the Cardinals approach Day 2 of the draft knowing they have Love in the building.
