As the biggest story around the New England Patriots has been about head coach Mike Vrabel and sports reporter Diann Russini, actions have been taken from the head coach, including counseling. While the talk of the sports world has been around the relationship between Vrabel and Russini, with more information coming out recently, the team’s vice president of player personnel, Eliot Wolf, would speak on the matter.
It was also announced that Vrabel would miss the third day of the NFL Draft to take part in the counseling, with Wolf speaking about his absence and how it will work.
“I just refer to the statement,” Wolf said, via NBC Sports. “That’s a personal thing that Mike’s dealing with and going through, and obviously, we support him. As far as the work is concerned on Saturday, not too worried about that. Just as far as the process that we have in place, the people that we have in place. And it’s going to be different without his presence there, but we feel really good about the people that we have in place to make up for it.”
Patriots’ Eliot Wolf on what’s missing without Mike Vrabel
There is no denying how big a story it is with Vrabel and Russini, as more reports are giving insight into what the relationship was, though not all the details are out. However, with Vrabel going through counseling, the situation is important enough to address, with Wolf explaining what’s missing without the head coach there.
“The stability of him as a person, some of the leadership, some of the presence,” Wolf said. “He does a nice job for us with the undrafted players. Obviously, he’s a tremendous recruiter, so that’s maybe something that we’ll be missing. But again, we’re very confident in the people we have with the process. The assistant coaches have done a tremendous job, as have the scouts, preparing for day three. And we’re excited about it.”
After New England chose Caleb Lomu in the first round, it continues Friday and Saturday with the rest of their picks in the NFL Draft.
