The New York Giants have significantly changed their draft strategy recently. With an additional selection at No. 10, General Manager Joe Schoen has ramped up his scouting of Arizona State wide receiver Jordyn Tyson.
According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport and Mike Garafolo, Schoen recently traveled to Tempe for a private workout and dinner with Tyson, indicating that the Giants are eager to add elite offensive talent to their roster.
The additional draft capital has greatly increased the likelihood of Tyson becoming a top-ten pick, as New York aims to compensate for the loss of Lawrence by acquiring a primary receiving threat.
In a bold projection for ESPN, analyst Matt Miller suggests that the Giants may not wait until their second pick to secure Tyson.
He predicts a significant focus on a wide receiver at No. 5 overall, naming Tyson as the team’s preferred choice if Notre Dame’s Jeremiyah Love is gone, which is expected.
While New York has been linked to strong defensive prospects like Sonny Styles and Caleb Downs, Miller reports that Tyson is firmly established as the Giants’ top wide receiver option.
A rival area scout noted that no team conducted more extensive research on Tyson or visited Tempe as often as the Giants, highlighting the organization’s deep commitment to the Sun Devil playmaker.
Furthermore, Jeremy Fowler mentioned that the coaching staff has high hopes for Tyson’s potential, though some in the organization might still advocate for Love in the event of an unexpected slide in the draft.
Despite their focus on wide receivers, the Giants could find themselves in a “dream scenario” depending on how the draft board unfolds on Thursday night in Pittsburgh.
ESPN beat writer Jordan Raanan recently mocked Jeremiyah Love to the Giants at No. 5 and Caleb Downs at No. 10. In this scenario, New York would be thrilled to secure both a generational offensive weapon and a blue-chip safety.
Whether it’s Tyson at No. 5 or a combination of elite talent within the top ten, the Giants are positioned to be the key players in the first round of the draft.
