Matt Miller has issues with Mel Kiper Jr. mocking Jordyn Tyson to Chiefs at No. 9

The Kansas City Chiefs need to make a splash in the 2026 NFL Draft. Kansas City has already made some aggressive moves to upgrade the roster this offseason. But one national analyst is cautioning the Chiefs from selecting one offensive weapon in the top 10.

ESPN’s Matt Miller explained why he disagrees with Mel Kiper Jr.’s mock draft pick of Jordyn Tyson to the Chiefs at ninth overall.

“I find nine to be way too rich for Jordyn Tyson, who has missed 34% of Arizona State’s games over the last three years,” Miller said on Wednesday via NFL Draft Daily. “The last time he was healthy, in 2024, he had eight drops… When he’s healthy, he looks good, but availability is the best ability and he is often not out there.”

Tyson suffered a major knee injury in 2022, tearing his ACL, MCL, and PCL in his left knee. He missed 11 games over two seasons. Tyson also missed two games in 2024 with a broken collarbone and three games in 2025 with a hamstring issue.

Miller suggested that the Chiefs push for a receiver like Makai Lemon instead of Tyson.

He also pointed out that Kansas City needs to think about replacing some of their many aging players. Miller argued that the Chiefs should not waste a premium pick on a role player like Tyson.

“This is a team that is devoid of talent so deeply throughout the entire roster, let’s not even get into tight end,” Miller added. “I think Kansas City drafting what would maybe be a number three receiver if everyone’s healthy at nine is way too rich for me.”

It will be fascinating to see if Kansas City follows Miller’s advice during the draft next week.
