James Conner to announce Day 2 Cardinals draft pick in Pittsburgh

The NFL Draft has, in recent years, added a tradition on Day 2 by featuring team legends or current players to announce selections in the second and third rounds, helping maintain viewer interest during the event.

For the 2026 NFL Draft in Pittsburgh, the Arizona Cardinals announced Wednesday that running back James Conner will handle their Day 2 selections from the podium. Instead of former franchise figures such as Karlos Dansby, Jim Hart, and Deuce Lutui, Conner, who returns to the Cardinals in 2026, will announce Arizona’s picks. The Cardinals currently hold the 34th overall pick in the second round and the 65th pick in the third round, though those selections could change via potential trades.

Conner’s connection to Pittsburgh adds significance to the assignment. He is an Erie, Pennsylvania native and McDowell High School graduate who played college football at the University of Pittsburgh. He was originally selected by the Pittsburgh Steelers in the third round of the 2017 NFL Draft, and the 2026 draft will be held in Pittsburgh, where he began his professional career.

Conner has also built a strong following in western Pennsylvania from his early life in Erie through his time with the Steelers. He is expected to receive strong crowd support during the announcement. Over his nine-season NFL career, he has recorded more than 6,000 rushing yards and 60 rushing touchdowns.

Day 2 of the draft is scheduled for Friday, April 24 at 7 p.m. ET (4 p.m. Arizona time). Conner will be the second active player to announce draft selections, following Kelvin Beachum’s 2023 appearance.
