Notre Dame football was able to see one of its better players get selected early in the NFL Draft, as Jeremiyah Love went to the Arizona Cardinals with the No. 3 pick. There’s no doubt that Love is a hard worker, and head coach Marcus Freeman is the one to get credit for that. Before the NFL Draft, Freeman was on a broadcast with Nick Saban, saying that he needed to get back to South Bend so he could be ready at 6:45 a.m. local time to meet with his team the following morning.
Saban had to immediately make a comment on Freeman.
“They always tell me how hard I was to work for. We never had a meeting at 6:45 (a.m.) in the middle of the draft, OK? C’mon,” Saban said.
It didn’t take long for Freeman to respond with a smile.
“We got class. We got to go to class. I got to get them out of there so they can go to class,” Freeman said.
There’s no reason to question what Freeman does as a coach, and he even received some interest from the NFL teams at one point.
“I had some conversations with higher-ups in the NFL,” Freeman said in an interview with Esquire. “They all usually start with conversations about our current players and turn into: Would you be interested in making a transition to the NFL?
“So, I was able to gain knowledge, and it was great for me as an individual to find out what they view as successful, what the NFL system values in certain individuals.
