As it’s being reported that the New York Giants and Dexter Lawrence are at an impasse amid their ongoing contract negotiations and trade talks, his teammate, Brian Burns, is anxious to see him back in the Big Apple.
Speaking to ClutchPoints about his upcoming charity softball game — which takes place on May 30, 2026, at Clover Stadium in Pomona, New York — Burns conceded that the Giants’ defensive line may have underperformed in 2025. He appears anxious to prove the doubters wrong, but Big Blue needs to figure out Lawrence’s situation first.
“This is a line that a lot of people pray to be on, so I’m just trying to take advantage and really rush as one this year ’cause I don’t feel like we did what we were expected to do, or what we expected of ourselves last year,” Burns admitted. “I feel like we could definitely redeem ourselves this year by putting it all together.”
How do they accomplish that? The first step, in Burns’ mind, is simple: the Giants need to bring Lawrence back by any means necessary.
“That definitely [starts] by getting the big fella back in the building,” Burns said.
Burns credits Lawrence for helping him get 25 sacks in two years with the Giants. Burns had 16.5 sacks, the second-most in the NFL, in 2025. Lawrence is the “unsung hero” of the team, and the Giants need to reward him for that.
“It is great, man,” Burns said of playing with Lawrence. “A lot of times, he frees me up because he demands so much attention. He’s the unsung hero a lot of the time, but he always gets my appreciation. He knows that.”

It has been reported that Lawrence is unhappy with his place on the Giants. He recently requested a trade after contract talks did not go as he wished.
Ian Rapoport was the one who reported that the Giants and Lawrence reached an “impasse.” He added, “The Giants have engaged with teams on a potential trade and that will continue. It should come to a head before the Draft.”
The clock is ticking. If the Giants want to reach their full potential with Burns, Lawrence, Carter, and Thibodeaux, they will need to reach an agreement sooner rather than later.
