The excitement surrounding the Dallas Cowboys and Ohio State linebacker Sonny Styles is intensifying as we approach the 2026 NFL Draft.
ESPN analyst Louis Riddick has expressed strong support for Mel Kiper Jr.’s projection that the Cowboys should trade up from the 12th to the 6th overall pick to select the talented defensive prospect.
This proposed trade with the Browns would involve the Cowboys giving up their 12th and 20th picks, and Riddick believes that Styles has the potential to be a superstar and should wear a Cowboys uniform.
While the idea of moving into the top ten to draft Styles has captured recent headlines, a new mock draft from NFL.com suggests a different trade scenario between Dallas and Cleveland.
In this projection, the Cowboys actually move down from the 20th overall pick to the 24th spot, and the Browns would ascend to pick No. 20 to select Arizona State junior wide receiver Jordyn Tyson, a dynamic playmaker who could alleviate some pressure off Jerry Jeudy and provide their offense with an additional explosive target.
To complete this jump of four spots, Cleveland would swap its third and fifth-round picks with Dallas.
With the 24th overall selection gained through this trade, the Cowboys would draft Chris Johnson, a senior cornerback out of San Diego State.
The analysis of the mock draft suggests that if the Cowboys’ scouts observe the same elite performance in Johnson’s game film and at the NFL Scouting Combine that experts have noted, they would not hesitate to choose the quick-footed cornerback, and this strategy allows Dallas to enhance its middle-round draft capital while still landing a high-impact starter for their secondary.
By moving back four spots, the Cowboys would gain additional assets to address multiple roster needs, contrasting with the more aggressive approach of sacrificing multiple high picks to move into the top six.
The Cowboys are a key player in first-round trade rumors, with ESPN’s Matt Miller reporting that league insiders anticipate significant activity due to a limited number of blue-chip prospects.
With the 12th pick, Dallas is a team to watch as they look to move up and secure elite players before they are taken.
