Chiefs get Kadyn Proctor after Chargers trade in NFL.com mock draft

With the 2026 NFL Draft just one week away, Kansas City Chiefs general manager Brett Veach is signaling that the organization is ready for a night filled with high-stakes moves.

During a recent media availability, Veach pointed out that the talent grades for this year’s class of offensive tackles and receivers are remarkably close.

This proximity in evaluations suggests that minor differences could lead to a flurry of trades, and he hinted that fans should expect an exciting night, as the lack of a clear drop-off between prospects will likely encourage teams to be aggressive in moving up or down the draft board to secure their preferred targets.

This anticipated aggression is underscored in a recent NFL.com mock draft, which predicts the Chiefs will move up from the 29th pick, originally owned by the Rams, to the 22nd overall spot.

In this projected trade with the Los Angeles Chargers, Kansas City would swap its third-round selection for a fourth-round pick, allowing it to jump seven spots.

The goal of this move is to select Alabama junior offensive tackle Kadyn Proctor.

Proctor is seen as a prototypical fit for Andy Reid’s offensive system and is considered a foundational starter, and his addition would likely lead to a reshuffling of the offensive line, possibly moving Josh Simmons to the right side to enhance the team’s pass protection.

While the trade for Proctor focuses on the middle of the first round, the Chiefs may look even higher to fill gaps left by the departure of Trent McDuffie.

With the number 9 overall pick after a tough 2025 season, reports indicate that Veach has already reached out to Arizona Cardinals GM Monti Ossenfort about potentially acquiring the third overall pick.

Jumping into the top three would likely allow them to target elite defensive ends like David Bailey or Arvell Reese.

Whether they secure a tackle in the 20s or a pass rusher in the top five, the Chiefs seem determined to leverage their draft capital to keep their championship window open.
