Rumors suggest the New York Giants could be looking to trade Dexter Lawrence after the two sides could not reach an agreement on a new contract extension. There is a belief that the Los Angeles Chargers might be in the mix to potentially make a deal for the 28-year-old defensive lineman, but general manager Joe Hortiz isn’t revealing just how interested the team might be.
When asked about possibly making a deal with the Giants for Lawrence, Hortiz simply informed media members that he doesn’t like to talk about players who do not play for the Chargers, according to Daniel Popper of The Athletic. Instead, the third-year GM complimented Lawrence as a player.
“I typically don’t like talking about players on other teams,” said Hortiz. “You guys know that. I’ll say [Lawrence is] a great player, and I’ll leave it at that.”
Only time will tell how things play out for Lawrence, as the seven-year veteran should be receiving plenty of attention from other teams if he is truly available via trade. Dexter Lawrence has been a consistent defensive lineman throughout his career. He ended the 2025-26 campaign with 31 combined tackles (14 solo) and 0.5 sacks. Lawrence also recorded his first-career interception against Justin Herbert and the Chargers.
As for Los Angeles, the organization certainly could use an upgrade in the defensive line. Lawrence would be a great veteran addition to help elevate the defense as a whole for next season. What that might cost the Chargers is unknown at this time. Everything involving possible trade talks regarding Dexter Lawrence is pure rumor.
