The Buffalo Sabres are hosting the Boston Bruins in Game 2 of the Stanley Cup Playoffs on Tuesday. They won Game 1 at home, their first playoff game in nearly 15 years, and the crowd was going wild. The Sabres knew they needed to keep the energy up, so they invited Bills quarterback Josh Allen to bang the drum before the game. But the former NFL MVP did way more than that.

After leading the “Let’s Go Buffalo” chant twice, Allen pump-faked a third time before flinging the drumstick and picking up a beer. The quarterback cracked it open and chugged it, much to the delight of the Sabres crowd. He did it all while wearing the fan-favorite Goat Head black jersey with the number 89 for Central New York native Alex Tuch.
Allen returned to the Bills facility this week after the birth of his daughter with wife Hailee Steinfeld. At a press conference in Orchard Park, he said he wanted to get to a Sabres playoff game during this series. Just days later, he was downtown banging the drum and slugging beers.
The Sabres won Game 1 4-3 thanks to a multi-goal third-period comeback. Tage Thompson scored the first two goals, tying the game with 4:16 to play. Mattiass Samuelsson scored less than two minutes later, and Buffalo held on to win. After many crushing playoff losses for Allen’s Bills, the Buffalo fans were treated to a gem on Sunday.
The Bills are headed into a vital season with a new head coach. Sean McDermott was the bench boss for the entire Josh Allen era, but was fired after last year’s playoff debacle. Joe Brady takes over after a stint as the team’s offensive coordinator, but that does not alleviate any of the Super Bowl pressure.
The Sabres and Bruins continue their series in Game 3 on Thursday in Boston.
