Bengals acquire Dexter Lawrence in Giants trade for pick No. 10

Dexter Lawrence was a hot name in the rumor mill in recent weeks as he and the New York Giants couldn’t come to an agreement on a new contract extension. On Saturday, the Cincinnati Bengals pulled off a move to acquire Lawrence, giving up draft capital to get the deal done.

Reports indicate that the Bengals are sending the No. 10 overall pick of the 2026 NFL Draft as part of the trade package to acquire Dexter Lawrence, according to Ian Rapoport and Mark Garafolo of the NFL Network.

“Giants star Dexter Lawrence is being traded to the Bengals in a pre-Draft blockbuster that includes the No. 10 pick heading to the Giants, per me and Mike Garafolo,” reported Rapoport. “NYG gets premium draft compensation, Cincy gets a lynchpin, while Sexy Dexy gets a new, big-money extension.”

The initial belief was that the Giants would acquire a late first-round pick in exchange for the 28-year-old defensive tackle, per Garafolo. However, the front office managed to add a top 10 pick to help rebuild the roster around its young core.

When word spread around the league, the Giants were likely getting a first-round pick in exchange for Dexter Lawrence, many believed it would be a late 1, but Joe Schoen, John Harbaugh & Co. land a top 10 pick in exchange for the 17th pick in 2019,” explained Garafolo.

Lawrence has been a solid force on the defensive line throughout his seven-year career in the NFL. He played all 17 games last season, recording 31 combined tackles (14 solo), 0.5 sacks, and his first-ever interception. The three-time Pro Bowler should be an immediate impact player for the Bengals.
