Coach Ben Johnson’s Chicago Bears sit atop the NFC North heading into Week 8’s game in Seattle that got a big Colston Loveland injury update. The Bears traded for DT Jeffrey Simmons at the trade deadline and could trade more players, but running back Kyle Monangai is not expected to be one of them.
Johnson and the Bears were hoping to have Monangai back for the Seahawks game, but fate has gone a different way as Monangai was ruled out of Week 8’s matchup.
Monangai has not played since October 4’s 146-yard explosion against Aaron Glenn’s New York Jets, a game that fans look back on fondly as Johnson’s team gears up for another playoff run. The Bears running back has been dealing with toe and thumb injuries and hasn’t been able to contribute for most of the month of October as a result.
27-year-old running back D’Andre Swift also got an injury update this week, and it’s good news as Chicago continues to charge forward toward another winning season, and, potentially, a trip to the franchise’s first Super Bowl since February 2007, when they lost to Peyton Manning’s Indianapolis Colts in Miami Gardens, Florida.
Monagai’s services will certainly be missed against the Seahawks, whose Mike Macdonald-led defense is as tough to face as any in football when they’re on their games, particularly at Lumen Field in Seattle. Monangai could be a Bears X-factor in the playoffs, but for now, Johnson is content to line ’em up and play to the final whistle against Macdonald’s team.
