Bears’ Logan Jones lands Heinz endorsement, a lifetime ketchup supply as pick No. 57

The Chicago Bears had the No. 57 overall pick in the NFL Draft and they used that second-round pick to select Logan Jones, a center from Iowa. By selecting the Big Ten lineman with that pick, Jones becomes the company’s “Mr. 57.”

That title has been bestowed by Heinz 57, as it salutes that brand’s famous number that is associated with the company that is well known for its ketchup — and many other products. This is the first year of Heinz’s association with the NFL Draft. As a result, Jones will get several rewards.

They include A custom “Mr. 57” jacket, a lifetime supply of Heinz ketchup and a chance to partner with Heinz in future promotions. That last reward could be quite lucrative, depending on how much Heinz pays him to participate in those promotions.

The 6-3, 299-pound Jones could become an excellent selection for the Bears. The retirement of Drew Dalman means the Bears had a strong need for a center, and Jones should be able to step in and fill the opening.

Jones has excellent movement skills for an interior offensive lineman. He is at his best when he pulls and traps. He had 50 starts as a college player, so he has the kind of experience that should help him make key contributions on a consistent basis.

He does not take many missteps on the field, and that is something that could help him stand out in the eyes of head coach Ben Johnson. The Bears’ coach is a noted perfectionist who simply does not have much patience for players who make mistakes on the practice field or the game.
