Joe Schoen was busy on the first night of the NFL Draft, as he had two picks in the first 10. Many believe the New York Giants knocked it out of the park and put themselves on a good footing. The latest Matt Miller mock draft has the Giants using their first pick in Round 2 on a player who was a top-10-ranked prospect named Jermod McCoy, according to his latest prediction.
“McCoy ranked as my No. 10 overall prospect in the class based on film study, but questions surrounding the long-term health of his knee following an ACL injury in January 2025 caused him to slip. The Giants will jump on the opportunity to select a top-10 player at a core position of need,” Miller wrote.
The Giants drafted Arvel Reese with their first pick. Then, they drafted Francis Mauigoa with their 10th overall pick. With these picks, the Giants fortified the trenches. It gave them a good start on the rebuild process as they attempt to compete with the Philadelphia Eagles.
The Giants hired John Harbaugh to be their new head coach in the offseason. With that move, the team has focused on getting better in the trenches. But McCoy is a cornerback who could solidify the secondary. But there are questions about his health.
McCoy missed the entire 2025 season while recovering from a torn ACL. But he was solid in the 2024 season. McCoy generated 44 tackles, four interceptions, and 13 pass deflections in 13 games. Ultimately, no one picked him in Round 1. If the Giants take him, it could be high-risk/high-reward. If McCoy stays healthy, he could be one of the steals of the NFL Draft.
