The 2026 NFL Draft is loaded with a ton of exciting talent throughout. One key player to keep an eye on is former Ohio State Buckeye Caleb Downs, who is projected to be an early- to mid-first-round pick. He’s so talented that a current general manager for a team in the NFC is hoping and praying Downs gets selected by a team in the AFC.
NFL insider Jordan Schultz posted on X, formerly known as Twitter, that an unnamed general manager for a team picking near the bottom of the first round on Thursday claimed that every team that passes on Downs is making a mistake. At the end of the day, it doesn’t appear this organization is in a position to trade up for the 21-year-0ld safety, and just hopes his team doesn’t have to play against him too often.
“Every team that passes on Caleb Downs will be making a mistake. Hope he’s in the AFC,” said a general manager via text to Jordan Schultz.
Downs played three seasons of college football, one with the Alabama Crimson Tide and two with the Ohio State Buckeyes. He’s been a stud throughout his entire collegiate career and has all of the signs of becoming a superstar in the NFL. Caleb Downs ended his time in college with 257 combined tackles (164 solo), six interceptions, three forced fumbles, one fumble recovery, and 1.5 sacks.
With the draft underway, it’s not entirely clear which team will select Downs. However, it plays out, maybe that NFC general manager will get his wish. Or, it could turn into his nightmare.
