Cameron Heyward makes Aaron Rodgers recruiting pitch as he mulls decision

The Pittsburgh Steelers are ready for the 2026 NFL Draft. Pittsburgh enters the draft with a whopping 12 selections, including the 21st overall pick. But the Steelers still have uncertainty at the game’s most important position ahead of the draft.

Steelers veteran Cam Heyward made his recruiting pitch to QB Aaron Rodgers as he mulls a decision on his future.

“We should be a better team. I think he’s enjoyed his time so far,” Heyward told NFL.com’s Judy Battista on Thursday. “But everybody’s here, locked in on football and we want to keep it that way. Obviously a different staff, but he understands that staff as well.”

Pittsburgh hired Mike McCarthy at head coach after Mike Tomlin stepped down after the 2025 season. McCarthy and Rodgers spent 13 seasons together with the Packers, including one Super Bowl season.

The Steelers have done just about everything they can to make a return attractive for Rodgers. But just like last year, they are left waiting on a decision from Rodgers on draft day.

“For Aaron, I think it’s about finding a situation, if he does come back, where he can win a Super Bowl,” Heyward added. “I think we have a lot of pieces that are headed in that direction.”

Perhaps Rodgers wants to see who the Steelers land in the draft before making his decision. But that runs the risk of Pittsburgh scooping up a quarterback like Ty Simpson if he falls to them in the first round.

It will be fascinating to watch how Pittsburgh navigates draft weekend with Rodgers’ future completely undecided.
