The NFL Draft is just hours away, and still no one knows where Ty Simpson will land. Many experts agree that he won’t go in the top ten, but then the board opens up with options. CBS Sports insider Jonathan Jones says that the Pittsburgh Steelers may be looking to move up the board for Simpson, trading with the New York Jets to do so.
“Steelers owner Art Rooney II more or less ruled out Pittsburgh taking a quarterback in the first round in a recent interview, even though Aaron Rodgers has yet to give the team a firm answer on his future. Pick No. 33 isn’t in the first round, though. Would there be a way for the Steelers to send a package to the Jets and get in front of Arizona come Friday night if they want Simpson enough?” Jones reported.
That would require the Steelers to move up 20 spots, from 53rd overall to 33rd, to make the deal. But getting in front of the Cardinals and Jets appears vital for any team that wants Simpson. Jones says the Steelers could go even higher to get a better contract for their quarterback.
“At pick No. 32 the Seahawks have essentially hung a sign on the Space Needle that they are willing to trade back and acquire more draft capital. If you like Simpson enough at 34 then he’s worth what you’d give up to get to 32 and secure the fifth-year option,” Jones reported.
The Steelers are still awaiting an answer from Aaron Rodgers on whether or not he will play in 2026. His team has taken quarterbacks in the NFL Draft before, and he was not thrilled with the Jordan Love pick. Could taking Simpson sour that relationship. And how will being the host city of the NFL Draft impact their decision?
