Crunching The Numbers: Just How Far Behind Is Yamaha’s V4 MotoGP Project Really?

If you were to listen to the fans and pundits when they write and speak about the current state of Yamaha’s V4 MotoGP project, you would be overwhelmed by a sense of doom and gloom. If you were to listen to some of Yamaha riders speak about the current state of the Yamaha V4 M1, you would start believe the apocalypse is nigh. With the exception of Toprak Razgatlioglu, of course: the triple WorldSBK champion came to the Prima Pramac Yamaha squad with few expectations and a plan to prepare himself to be competitive in 2027.

Is that perception real? If you look at the championship table it certainly seems so. Fabio Quartararo is the first Yamaha rider, and is in a lowly 17th place after three rounds. His best finishing positions were sixth in the sprint at Goiânia, and 11th in the US GP at the Circuit Of The Americas.

Yamaha is last in the manufacturers standings with 9 points, 92 behind leader Aprilia and 19 behind fourth-placed Honda. And both Yamaha squads are at the bottom of the team standings, the Monster Energy Yamaha team with 9 points and Prima Pramac Yamaha with just 1 point, thanks to Toprak Razgatlioglu’s 15th place in Austin.
