Jaguars’ Travis Hunter, Ian Rapoport go back-and-forth on 2026 role report

Some think Jacksonville Jaguars receiver Travis Hunter can’t go both ways. Dez Bryant hates the idea of Hunter not playing offense. And Hunter went back and forth with Ian Rapoport about the report of Hunter’s 2026 role, according to posts on X.

Hunter asked, “Now who told you this?”

“When he does come back … they expect him to be a full-time corner, part-time receiver,” Rapoport said. “When you talked to teams last year, that’s probably where they thought the value was. Maybe this year we will get to see the player that (the Jaguars) drafted, that they traded up for.”

Rapoport said he didn’t know what Hunter was driving at, according to Rapoport’s post on X.

“Which part of is (Hunter) questioning?” Rapoport said. “Is he saying, ‘Wow, I can’t believe you have all this information, which is what I assume this is.”

Jaguars WR Travis Hunter still has hurdles ahead

One thing that has to happen for Hunter is that he gets healthy enough for the start of the season, according to a post on YouTube by the Jaguars via jaguarswire.com.

Jaguars GM James Gladstone said Hunter is working through the rehab process.

“He’ll be, for all intents and purposes,” Gladstone said, “a limited participant throughout the offseason program with eyes on return to play at full tick in training camp.”

Hunter played in seven games last season before going down with the injury. He caught 28 passes for 298 yards and one touchdown as a receiver. On defense, he had 15 total tackles. However, he played twice as many snaps on offense as on defense.

It makes sense that the reverse would be true in 2026, if Rapoport’s information is accurate.

The Jaguars have Brian Thomas Jr. as their No. 1 wide receiver. Jakobi Meyers is WR2, followed by Parker Washington. Defensively, Hunter is slotted to start one corner spot with Christian Braswell at the other.
