Jackie Young is used to dishing dimes, but the Las Vegas Aces star has reportedly taken it to a whole new level.

Only on the hallowed hardwood of the Las Vegas Aces would that be remotely advisable: per Alexa Philippou of ESPN, Young is the first reported seven-figure player in league history, with the sides agreeing to a standard one-year max contract for $1.19 million.
Young essentially becomes one of the faces of the larger paydays secured in the post-collective bargaining agreement negotiation era, and it’s hard to find a better name for such a cause: a third WNBA Finals ring is but the latest bit of hardware adorned by the Notre Dame alumna, who has spent the past four seasons establishing herself as one of the WNBA’s top two-way threats.

It appears that Vegas’ historically large check gave it an aura of exclusivity: Philippou’s report mentions that Young did not take meetings with any other teams prior to her historic inking. Her new payday is perhaps the perfect financial fruit of the players’ side of negotiations. Young was already one of the league’s top-paid players at just over $252,000 (highest as of 2024), but the top overall pick from 2019 more than triples it as she embarks on her eighth season in Nevada.

Aces Continue Their Dynasty Run
Young rediscovered her shooting touch last time around, raising her success rate from the field by over four points from the prior tour and averaging over 20 points in the Aces’ 12-game run to further championship glory. Her fingers already carried two other rings from 2022 and 2023, while two Olympic medals (one each for the three-on-three and five-on-five editions of the game) have resided around her neck.
Las Vegas thus made a statement in the first part of its top triumvirate’s reassembly: this ongoing run, which has seen the Aces take three of the last four WNBA titles, has primarily been built by the collaboration of Young, Chelsea Gray, and A’ja Wilson. Each was on the expansive free agency ledger, but the four-time MVP Wilson has already offered a verbal commitment, and a similar answer from Gray may soon follow.
The WNBA’s first millionaire officially secures her status on May 9 when Las Vegas opens its latest championship defense in an immediate Finals rematch against the Phoenix Mercury at home.
