The Seattle Seahawks are ready for the 2026 NFL Draft. Seattle needs to replenish their roster after paying their Super Bowl tax during NFL free agency. One national analyst believes the Seahawks could do just that by taking a specific approach to the draft.
ESPN’s Bill Barnwell argued which teams should trade up or down in the draft in a recent article. Barnwell named the Seahawks as one that that needs to trade down.
It is easy to understand the logic of this suggestion. Seattle enters the draft with just four total selections, which is far from enough to make a noticable difference.
“The Seahawks have their own picks at the end of each round on Day 1 and Day 2, but their fourth- and fifth-rounders were sent to the Saints for receiver Rashid Shaheed,” Barnwell wrote. “They also traded a sixth-round selection and their lone pick in the seventh round, meaning Schneider & Co. have only one pick on Day 3 — and it doesn’t come until No. 213.”
He also argued that Seahawks GM John Schneider is no stranger to trading down in the draft. In fact, Seattle has been in this exact same position before. During the 2019 NFL Draft, the Seahawks entered draft week with just for picks. However, Schneider turned one first-round pick into a whopping six selections in that same draft. One of those picks even became wide receiver DK Metcalf.
Of course, it is not enough to simply trade down in the draft. The Seahawks also have to hit on those picks too.
“Sliding down a few spots from Nos. 32 or 64 and recouping some of those missing selections in the later rounds of the draft seems like an obvious move,” Barnwell concluded.
Schneider will be under a lot of pressure to work his magic during the draft this year.
