The Dallas Cowboys are ready for the 2026 NFL Draft. Owner Jerry Jones declared that Dallas could make some moves during the draft because the team has plenty of ammunition. That could be a wise decision since the Cowboys only have limited time remaining to win a Super Bowl with Dak Prescott.
Hall of Fame Cowboys quarterback Troy Aikman asked some uncomfortable questions about Prescott in a recent interview. Aikman pondered Prescott’s health and longevity before his age 33 season.
“As Dak continues to get older, one: it’s hard to stay healthy. So, will he make it through a full [18-]game season? Will he make it into the postseason and be able to play?” Aikman told KDFW Fox 4’s Sam Gannon on April 9th. “And then on top of that: how long is he going to play at the level that he played at last year?”
Aikman’s comments reflect the level of urgency surrounding Dallas ahead of the 2026 NFL season. The Cowboys finished the 2025 season 7-9-1 despite an excellent year by Prescott and the offense.
Unfortunately, Dallas’ defense was pathetic and held the team back throughout the season. Aikman explained that he is sympathetic to Cowboys fans after another wasted campaign.
“I think the disappointing thing from the fans’ perspective is that when you have a year like Dak had, and yet you don’t even get to see that take place in January — you don’t even make the postseason — that’s a wasted year,” Aikman concluded.
The Cowboys will be under a lot of pressure to get back to the playoffs in 2026. If they cannot pull it off, big changes could be coming to Dallas next offseason.
