Unrivaled Week 2 has come and gone, but it left plenty of memorable moments.

Co-founded by Napheesa Collier and Breanna Stewart, Unrivaled is a three-on-three women’s professional basketball league in Miami. Composed of eight teams, the league delivers a unique, fast-paced style of basketball. Additionally, the league features three seven-minute quarters, while the fourth quarter operates with a target score. The first team to reach that mark wins.
Broadcast for four consecutive nights on TNT, HBO Max, and truTV, Unrivaled offers athletes a salary north of $200,000 with the opportunity to stay stateside. To avoid back-to-back matchups, the league has meticulously staggered them every Friday through Monday.
Ballislife breaks down the best moments and highlights from Unrivaled Week 2. An honorable mention goes to Courtney Williams, who faced her dad in a dance-off on Saturday night. With that, there was plenty of action and zest, capping off an eventful weekend.

Laces BC Dominance
Is there any team hotter than Laces BC right now? With a 4-1 record, head coach Andrew Wade and his squad are dominating the standings. Finishing with the third-best overall record last season, Laces were early favorites until injuries slowly derailed them. At full strength, Laces are the team to beat until another team finds a way to slow them down.
With four wins, Laces have surged as an offensive powerhouse, leading the league with 73.8 PPG and topping the boards in blocks (1.6 RPG) and rebounds (30.6 RPG). While not one player tops over 6-foot-2 on the roster, Alyssa Thomas, Naz Hillmon, and Maddy Siegrist have been the perfect trifecta in the frontcourt.
The success makes sense given that Jackie Young and Alyssa Thomas have returned to the club from last season. Champions with Rose BC last year, Brittney Sykes (AKA Slim) and Naz Hillmon have now joined forces with the Laces. Along with victory over Phantom BC, Laces defeated Rose BC 70-66, thanks to Young’s 35-point outing.

Brittney Sykes Game Winner vs. Phantom BC
Friday’s showdown against Phantom left fans talking. Wade’s construction of a Sykes, Thomas, and Young starting lineup perfectly matched Phantom’s trio of Kelsey Plum, Tiffany Hayes, and Aliyah Boston.
Sykes continued her reign with eight first-quarter points. Driving downhill, drilling 3-pointers off screens—Sykes was covering all bases. In nearly 15 minutes of action, Slim finished with 17 points, two rebounds, and two assists. Shooting 3-of-5 from beyond the arc, Sykes recorded three stocks (steals +blocks).
Perhaps the most anticipated matchup of the night included former WNBA Las Vegas Aces teammates Jackie Young and Kelsey Plum. Locking horns against Young, Plum has proven herself as the ultimate 3-on-3 player.
Are Laces BC The Team To Beat?
Considered a speedy, crafty, 3-level scoring guard, Plum is a matchup nightmare, especially with such a quick jump shot release. Somehow, Laces were able to escape Plum’s 25-point, 6-rebound, 7-assist outing.
With six lead changes, the matchup was tied a total of seven times. Eventually, Laces pulled through after Wade swapped in a lineup of Young, Thomas, and Siegrist, giving the squad length, versatility, and much-needed mismatches. Thomas has long been considered one of the most prominent point forwards in women’s basketball and is a defensive headache with her ability to get downhill. And can we talk about the two-player game between Thomas and Young?
While Laces held a firm lead, Phantom came back and even commanded a 75-73 lead with a target score of 76 in the final quarter. In dramatic fashion, Young used the catch-and-go with Thomas to secure the and-one bucket. With the game on the line, Sykes hit her second game-winner of the season with a moving 3-point shot, splitting the defense.
Hive BC Gets First Win
Hive BC finally found themselves in the win column following a 78-75 victory over Rose BC.
Limiting Rose to just 17 first-quarter points, Hive was able to overcome Chelsea Gray’s 36 points. Controlling the pace, Hive was led by a well-balanced scoring attack by the entire squad. Of course, there was Kelsey Mitchell, who led the team with 24 points, three rebounds, and one steal.
Although Mitchell hit foul trouble, she eventually drained the game-winning dagger after Gray and Kahleah Copper nailed back-to-back threes. With a fourth-quarter target score mark at 77, Hive held a one-point lead until Mitchell scored the game-winning layup off a dribble handoff.
Not only did Hive secure a victory, but they also did so against the Unrivaled reigning champs. Securing the rebounds and second-chance points, Monique Billings and Ezi Magbegor combined for 18 rebounds and four offensive boards alone.
This is a massive relief for Hive, who still sit at the bottom of the official standings with Lunar Owls BC. Underdogs due to a lack of Unrivaled experience prior to this season, they have immense talent, especially with Sonia Citron and Mitchell in the backcourt. Even though the club averages the fewest points per game (64.2 PPG), they’ve had a tough stretch to start the year with matchups against Mist, Breeze, and Vinyl.
This club can push the pace with Mitchell and Natisha Hiedeman and keep up on the boards with Magbegor and Billings. Add flamethrower Citron, who’s participating in her first Unrivaled season. Let’s not forget Saniya Rivers—who’s not only a bucket getter—but can defend at a high level. Perhaps coaching adjustment, time to gel, and defensive adjustments/flow are what Hive needs to succeed.
Lunar Owls BC/Vinyl BC Gets Spicy!
Similar to Hive BC, Lunar Owls gained their first victory of the season over Vinyl. With a 68-77 win, Lunar Owls were crowned Icy Hot comeback team of the week, and it came with some spice!
Led by Marina Mabrey’s 31-point, nine-rebound, two-assist, one-steal performance, the Lunar Owls overcame 12 lead changes and six ties to secure themselves in the win column. Of course, that came with a crash out, this time between Mabrey and Vinyl guard Courtney Williams. While the two got tangled up, both squads were separated, and Williams later joked about the incident on the broadcast.
No one ended up in Unrivaled jail, but Mabrey later debuted her crash-out jar on social media. After all, she did hit the game-winner.

Although Napheesa Collier is ruled out for the season, Skylar Diggins returned for her Lunar Owls BC season debut. The queen of game-winning shots, Diggins, finished with nine points, two rebounds, two assists, and one steal in just shy of 15 minutes. In addition, Aaliyah Edwards notched her fourth double-double in five games, this time recording 13 points, 18 rebounds, three assists, two steals, and five blocks.
Dominating Vinyl 27–2 in second-chance points, Lunar Owls BC held Vinyl in the second half as their offense went frozen. Shooting just 2–12 (16.7%) from beyond the arc, Vinyl couldn’t overcome Lunar Owl’s paint dominance. Plus, they took 25 3-pointers alone.
Now that Diggins is back, perhaps the stellar play of Mabrey and Edwards can propel them moving forward. The biggest question is whether Rebecca Allen and Rachel Banham can find their 3-point stride at a consistent level.
Paige Bueckers Wins Big
Breeze BC guard Paige Bueckers continues to score, as she was crowned winner of the Unrivaled free-throw challenge, presented by Xfinity. Named Jan. 19 player of the game, Bueckers erupted for an Unrivaled career-high 37 points, eight rebounds, and five assists in the 83-64 victory over Mist BC.
Making all 13 (100%) of her free throws, Bueckers edged out Tiffany Hayes, Azurá Stevens, Jordin Canada, and Aliyah Boston for the title. With that, Bueckers has pledged to donate the $50,000 prize to support her hometown through the Hopkins, Minnesota Strong Relief Fund. A native of the Land of 10,000 Lakes, the donation will help local families with rent, food, and utilities.

When asked how she’d spend the money, No. 5 answered in classic Bueckers fashion: “I got some good plans, but no pocket watching over here, I’m gonna take care of it.”
In her first season with Unrivaled, Bueckers ranks third in the official standings with 19.8 points, 8.2 rebounds, and 6.8 assists per game. Shooting 52.4% from the field and 35.1% from beyond the arc, Bueckers is associated with a young Breeze core that includes Cameron Brink, Dominque Malonga, and Rickea Jackson.
Chelsea Gray Makes History
The reigning Unrivaled Finals MVP, Gray made history as the first player in Unrivaled to record 400 points and 100+ assists. Nicknamed the “Point Gawd,” Gray extends her reign by averaging 30.6 points, 4.4 rebounds, 5.6 assists, and 1.8 steals per game.

Logging just over 21 minutes per game, Gray put up 37 points against Breeze BC on Jan. 11. Atop Rose BC’s leaderboard in several statistics, Gray now has an Unrivaled championship and seven career game winners under her belt. Leading Unrivaled in points per game, Gray is a top MVP contender among several sportsbooks.
Week 3 of Unrivaled kicks off on Friday, Jan. 23, featuring Mist vs. Rose and Phantom vs. Vinyl.
