Titans rookie Carnell Tate’s ‘violent’ promise after surprise No. 4 pick

The Tennessee Titans shook up the 2026 NFL Draft when they took wide receiver Carnell Tate fourth overall. But Tate clearly understands the assignment and is ready to get to work.

Being the first wide receiver off the board, all eyes will be on the fourth overall pick as a rookie. Tate wants all the smoke, and is prepared to prove why the Titans made the right decision, via team reporter Jim Wyatt.

“Just going out there and earning the team’s trust,” Tate said. “Going out there and making plays and being a reliable target for the organization.”

“I’m ready to go play fast and play violent and earn the trust of the organization,” he continued. “I am thankful for the organization and I’m going to bring it all to the table.”

Tate spent three years with Ohio State, winning the national championship in 2024. Over 39 games total, the receiver made 121 grabs for 1,872 yards and 14 touchdowns. In his final season with the Buckeyes, Tate caught 51 passes for career-highs in yardage (875) and touchdowns (nine).

Now, he’ll be joining a Titans offense that finished their 2025 season ranked 30th in passing offense, averaging 166.1 yards per game. Only one receiver – Eric Ayomanor – had more than 500 receiving yards. Tight end Chig Okonkwo was the only pass catcher to have 50+ receptions.

Selecting Tate gives quarterback Cam Ward a WR1 he can rely on. The rookie will be tasked with bring a spark to the offense. As head coach Robert Saleh’s first draft pick with the Titans, Tate’s selection was historic. Now, he’s trying to match the moment with his play on the field.
