Thanks to Trent Williams, this ESPN mock draft pick makes perfect sense for 49ers

With the Big Dance now in the rearview mirror, it is now time to shift focus to the NFL Draft, which takes place in a couple of weeks. We are right in the middle of mock draft season, and ESPN’s Peter Schrager released his first of two mock drafts on Tuesday.

The San Francisco 49ers are coming off another impressive season. However, once again, the Niners were never able to showcase their full potential due to so many injuries to their star players.

The Niners pick 27th in the upcoming NFL Draft, and Schrager has them taking an offensive tackle amid the Trent Williams contract talks.

“San Francisco’s offensive line could be in flux if things don’t get cleared up with Trent Williams’ contract. And to be honest, even if the Niners and Williams work out his deal, the team still has to be thinking about the future; Williams will be 38 years old next season. Lomu played left tackle for the Utes last season, and although his game is still a work in progress, he’s worthy of a first-round grade. He didn’t allow any sacks in 2025.”

Caleb Lomu is the second tackle being taken in the first round out of Utah. Spencer Fano is going to be a Top 10 pick as one of the top tackles in this class. There are a ton of elite tackles in this class, and it makes sense for the Niners to grab one. Williams can only be in the league for so long, and they need a future plan to make sure that quarterback Brock Purdy remains protected.

Here are three players the 49ers should avoid drafting in this upcoming NFL Draft.
