Texas Tech QB with bunch of Patrick Mahomes ties drops revelation about comparisons

Texas Tech quarterback Behren Morton knows he shares many similarities with Patrick Mahomes, but he is not leaning into that narrative entering the 2026 NFL Draft. However, he is training the same way as the two-time MVP as he prepares to begin his professional career.

Morton and Mahomes have the clear Texas Tech connection, but they also have many other similar roots. They share an agent, Chris Cabott, and both work with quarterback trainer Bobby Stroupe.

Morton has worked extensively with Stroupe ahead of the NFL Draft, even revealing that he has been in Kansas City throughout the pre-draft process.

“I’ve been told [that I resemble Patrick Mahomes] once or twice,” Morton said on ‘The Insiders.’ “I’m actually up here in Kansas City training with Bobby Stroupe. It’s been awesome. Working with Justin Hoover, my quarterback guy. We’ve had about six NFL guys come back. It’s really cool to see the guys that’s been through the process this last year.”

Texas Tech QB Behren Morton shares a school, agent and trainer with Patrick Mahomes. And a playing style, too?

“Maybe a little bit. I’ve been told once or twice.”

Morton is not directly training with Mahomes, who is currently rehabbing a torn ACL suffered at the end of the 2025 season.

As for their shared connection to Cabott, Morton said he had a “good guy” reach out to him to connect him with the agent, but would not clarify if it was Mahomes. Morton said Cabott has been taking care of him in Kansas City, but did not seem to indicate that it has developed into a relationship with Mahomes.

“Once NIL took off and it was time to get an agent in college football, I had a good guy reach out to me and say he’s got a great rep. I got in contact with Chris back in 2023, so we’ve been together for a couple of years now. We knew going into this process that I’d be going up to Kansas City. I’ve been taken really good care of and really enjoying my time here in Kansas.”

Morton is viewed as a potential late-round pick or a priority free agent after racking up 6,115 passing yards, 49 touchdowns and 14 interceptions in his final two seasons at Texas Tech. While his 2025 numbers underwhelmed, it was revealed at the end of the year that he played nearly the entire season with a hairline fracture in his leg.
