Superstars Djokovic, Alcaraz, Sabalenka and Pegula Light Up Day 4 at US Open 2025
Wednesday’s previews and results from the 2025 US Open
Day 4 at the 2025 US Open will feature former champions Carlos Alcaraz and Novak Djokovic in action.
First up, Djokovic will continue his quest for his 25th career Grand Slam title when he faces Zachary Svajda from the United States.
Never playing each other on Tour, Djokovic will be the overwhelming favourite to reach the third round. The Serbian legend has lost in the semifinal stage of the three previous Majors this season.
During the night session, fan-favourite Carlos Alcaraz returns to take on the shot-making brilliance of Mattia Bellucci from Italy. The first-time meeting will surely be enjoyed by the sold out crowd in Arthur Ashe Stadium.
Alcaraz has made the finals of his last seven tournaments, including a title run at Roland Garros and the finals of Wimbledon.
Other matches on deck on Wednesday will include No. 4 seed Taylor Fritz, No. 6 seed Ben Shelton, No. 11 seed Holger Rune and No. 17 seed Frances Tiafoe.
On Tuesday, defending champion and world No. 1 Jannik Sinner cruised into the second round with a straight set victory over Vit Kopriva. The Italian will next face former Masters 1000 winner Alexi Popyrin for a place in round three.
Other winners on Tuesday included No. 3 seed Alexander Zverev, and No. 8 seed Alex de Minaur, No. 10 seed Lorenzo Musetti, and No. 14 seed Tommy Paul.
On Thursday, Sinner and Zverev are slated to return to court.
Sabalenka and Pegula Back in Action
Top seed and defending champion Aryna Sabalenka will end the day’s matches on Ashe Stadium tonight against Polina Kudermetova from Russia.
Sabalenka has had an excellent year on Tour, but has failed to capture a Grand Slam title. Preferring hard-courts to any other surface, Sabalenka will be eager to win her fourth career Major at the end of the fortnight.
Defending finalist Jessica Pegula also returns to action on Wednesday, taking on Anna Blinkova from Russia.
Pegula has had an average year on Tour by her standards, but has picked up three titles throughout the season. Never winning a Major, Pegula will be adamant on solidifying her first title in New York in 2025.
Other matches to watch out for today will include former winner Emma Raducanu, No. 5 seed Mirra Andreeva, No. 7 seed Jasmine Paolini, No. 9 seed Elena Rybakina and No. 10 seed Emma Navvaro.
On Tuesday, No. 2 seed Iga Swiatek, No. 3 seed Coco Gauff, No. 8 seed Amanda Anisimova and two-time former winner Naomi Osaka all progressed to the second round.
Swiatek, Gauff, Anisimova and Osaka will return to action on Thursday.
