The 2026 NFL Draft is in full swing in Steelers Nation. As is the case, NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell kicks off the festivities.
But once he hit the stage, the fans did not receive him so warmly, per the NFL. Even with the trademark Steelers’ “terrible towel” in hand, he didn’t endear himself to the fans, who booed loudly.

Already, the 2026 NFL Draft is being saturated with many highlights from all angles. As expected, Indiana QB Fernando Mendoza was selected as the No.1 pick by the Las Vegas Raiders. At the same time, Goodell is handling the matter of New England Patriots head coach Mike Vrabel’s alleged extramarital affair with NFL insider Dianna Russini of The Athletic after being photographed together.
Goodell has stated to ESPN that this is a “personal matter” and not a direct violation of the league’s personal conduct policy.
Since 2006, Goodell has been the NFL Commissioner, following Paul Tagliabue. During Goodell’s tenure, the NFL has addressed issues ranging from player safety to league expansion overseas. NFL games have been played in countries such as Spain and Brazil.
In 2023, Goodell signed a three-year extension that runs until 2027. Two years later, he signed his 5th contract extension.
This year’s NFL Draft marks the second time Pittsburgh has hosted the occasion. The first time was hosted back in December 1947 at the Fort Pitt Hotel. At the time, over 300 players were selected, whereas approximately 257 players will be selected in 2026.
Furthermore, the Steelers are one of eight franchises to participate in each of the last 90 NFL Drafts, per Bob Labriola of Steelers.com.
