Sinner Races into 2025 Vienna Open Final

Erste Bank Open—Vienna, Austria

World No. 2 and four-time Major winner Jannik Sinner raced into the finals of the Vienna Open in Vienna, Austria on Saturday, improving to a perfect 12-0 against No. 3 seed Alex de Minaur.

Defeating the Australian 6-3, 6-4, Sinner will now await the winner of No. 2 seed Alexander Zverev or No. 4 seed Lorenzo Musetti.

Musetti’s performance this week and next week at Paris Masters will be particularly important as he is still in the running to qualify for the ATP Finals in Turin, Italy.

Zverev, who has had a consistent but underwhelming, qualified for the prestigious indoor event on Saturday.

Zverev has now qualified for the ATP Finals on eight occasions.

Sinner will be attempting to win his fourth title of the year this week in Vienna. The Italian has captured the Australian Open, Wimbledon and the China Open so far in 2025.

Swiss Indoors Basel—Basel, Switzerland

Veteran Spaniard Juame Munar failed to reach the finals of the Swiss Indoors Basel on Saturday, losing to Brazilian upstart Joao Fonseca 7-6(4), 7-5.

Needing one hour and 54 minutes to advance, Fonseca used his power from the baseline to oust his experienced opponent.

Munar, who has never won an ATP Tour title, reached the finals in Marbella, Spain back in 2021.

Fonseca will now await the winner No. 8 seed Alejandro Davidovich Fokina and Ugo Humbert.

Davidovich Fokina advanced to the final four after No. 4 seed Casper Ruud retired after dropping the first set in their quarterfinal encounter, and Humbert continued his dominance on indoor courts but withstanding 16 aces to defeat Reilly Opelka 7-6(0), 6-4.

Davidovich Fokina leads Humbert 2-1 in career head-to-head meetings.

Fonseca will move up to No. 34 in the rankings with his finals appearance.
