Saints rumors: Ohio State fans would love this enticing NFL Draft scenario

With Tyler Shough locked in at quarterback, the New Orleans Saints are now trying to build their offense around them. Holding the eighth overall selection in the 2026 NFL Draft, the Saints will be in a prime position to pick a potent playmaker.

New Orleans already has one former Ohio State star receiver on their roster in Chris Olave. But if Carnell Tate is available at their pick, the Saints might just have two, via Jordan Reid of ESPN.

“The Saints are open to the best player available at No. 8,” Reid wrote. “But it shouldn’t come as a surprise that they would quickly add Tate if he’s still available at No. 8 and have him join fellow Ohio State alumnus Chris Olave.”

Olave had a breakout season with Shough under center for most of it, catching 100 passes for 1,163 yards and nine touchdowns. No other receiver in New Orleans had more than 50 grabs, 500 yards or two touchdowns. Especially after trading Rashid Shaheed, the Saints know they need to give Shough more to work it.

Enter Tate. The wide receiver spent three years at Ohio State, appearing in 39 games. He caught 121 total passes for 1,872 yards and 14 touchdowns. Tate won a national championship with the Buckeyes in 2024 before ending his time in college by setting new career-highs in yards (875) and touchdowns (nine).

The receiver is considered one of the very best pass catchers in the 2026 class, meaning the Saints won’t be alone in their interest. But both Ohio State fans and New Orleans would be excited seeing Tate and Olave line up next to each other.
