Rinderknech to Face Vacherot For Shanghai Masters Title
Sunday’s ATP Tour and WTA Preview – Saturday’s Recap
A final that no one had predicted is set to take place on Sunday at the Rolex Shanghai Masters.
Frenchman Arthur Rinderknech from France defeated former US Open winner Daniil Medvedev 4-6, 6-2, 6-4 in the semifinals and will face his cousin Valentin Vacherot for the title.
Medvedev, who has had a terrible year on Tour by his standards, has not won a title since the Rome Masters in 2023.
Defeating Alex de Minaur and Learner Tien earlier in the event, Medvedev next play in Almaty, Kazakhstan next week.
Vacherot continued his fairytale run by defeating 24-time Major winner Novak Djokovic 6-3, 6-4.
Vacherot entered the event ranked No. 204, and has defeated seeded players Alexander Bublik, Tomas Machac, Tallon Griekspoor and Holger Rune in succession. He will move up to a minimum of No. 58 in the world as a result of making the finals this week.
Vacherot and Rinderknech have been supporting each other throughout the week.
An American Final Awaits in Wuhan
An American final awaits on Sunday in Wuhan, China, when No. 3 seed Coco Gauff will take on No. 6 seed Jessica Pegula.
Gauff posted a routine 6-4, 6-3 victory over No. 7 seed Jasmine Paolini earlier in the day, before Pegula caused the upset of the week by upending three-time former winner and reigning US Open champion Aryna Sabalenka 2-6, 6-4, 7-6(2).
Pegula currently leads Gauff 4-2 in career head-to-head meetings. Pegula has three titles on the year, and Gauff has one tournament win on the season at Roland Garros.
