Qatar MotoGP Round “Unlikely” To Happen As Scheduled, Says Carmelo Ezpleta

At an event organized by Spanish brewer Estrella Galicia, Carmelo Ezpeleta told the assembled media that the current conflict in the Middle East between Israel, the US, and Iran means that Qatar round of MotoGP on April 10th-12th, is unlikely to go ahead as scheduled.

“We have to wait,” the MotoGP Sports Entertainment Group (formerly Dorna) CEO told reporters. “I can’t say right now that we’re not going. We have been talking with Qatar since the events of Sunday, and we’ll make a decision. Going on April 12th looks difficult, but I can’t say yet that we’re not going.”

Ezpeleta didn’t rule out going at a later date. “We always have a plan B,” he said. The race would not be replaced at another circuit, he insisted, killing rumors that the race could be held at the Termas de Rio Hondo circuit, which was bumped off the calendar this year.
