The 2026 NFL Draft was a smashing success. The event lived up to the hype with several exciting trades and surprising selections. It was also a big success for the event itself, as Pittsburgh’s draft broke the league’s attendance record.
Pittsburgh set a new three-day attendance record for the NFL draft this year with 805,000 in attendance, per ESPN’s Adam Schefter. The previous record, 775,000, was set to years ago in Detroit during the 2024 NFL Draft.
Steelers fans showed up in force throughout the weekend to help break that attendance record. Their presence was obvious, with the team’s signature Terrible Towels visible everywhere throughout the weekend.
The first night of the draft was already a record-setting night with roughly 320,000 fans coming together to enjoy the first round. Pittsburgh had another strong night of attendance on Friday for Day 2, reaching 600,000 fans over the first two days combined.
For comparison, recents drafts held in Green Bay (2025) and Nashville (2019) each had 600,000 fans in attendance for all three days.
The draft took place outside of Acrisure Stadium on Pittsburgh’s North Shore and spilling over into nearby Point State Park.
NFL commissioner Roger Goodell announced the news to fans on Saturday, who attended for a third consecutive day despite rainy conditions.
The event was a combined effort between the Steelers, the City of Pittsburgh, and the city’s Municipal Department of Tourism VisitPITTSBURGH.
The pressure will be on the Commanders during the 2027 NFL Draft to up those attendance records once again.
It will take place at the National Mall in Washington, D.C. next April.
