Patriots’ Mike Vrabel gives Kayshon Boutte update after trade report

The recent comments from head coach Mike Vrabel about Kayshon Boutte have added intrigue to the New England Patriots’ evolving wide receiver lineup. While the team has been heavily linked to a potential blockbuster trade for A.J. Brown, Boutte has emerged as another receiver who may be on the move.

NFL insider Jordan Schultz reports that multiple teams have shown interest in the young wideout as he enters the final year of his contract.

With New England continuing to reshape its offensive depth following the arrival of Romeo Doubs, league sources believe Boutte could be the odd man out if a team meets the Patriots’ asking price.

This trade speculation was heightened by Vrabel’s remarks during the team’s voluntary workouts.

When asked about Boutte’s status following the trade reports, Vrabel confirmed to the media that the receiver is currently not participating in the voluntary program.

According to a post from Jordan Schultz on X, Vrabel mentioned that while Boutte is away from the facility, the two parties have kept open lines of communication, and in the high-stakes environment of the NFL offseason, a player’s absence from voluntary activities often indicates that a change of scenery is a real possibility, especially when their name is circulating in trade talks.

The potential departure of Boutte may become necessary as the team finalizes its pursuit of a true primary target.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter recently reported that the much-rumored trade between the Eagles and Patriots for A.J. Brown is still on track to happen, and Schefter noted that while a deal is on the table, it is likely to be finalized on or after June 1.

This timing allows the Eagles to spread Brown’s substantial salary cap hit over the next two seasons. For the Patriots, adding a perennial Pro Bowler like Brown would significantly boost an offense aiming to return to the Super Bowl after last season’s deep playoff run.
