The New York Jets made three selections in the first round of the 2026 NFL Draft, with one of them being used on former Indiana Hoosiers wide receiver Omar Cooper Jr. While talking with media members at his introductory press conference, Cooper revealed just how excited he is to work alongside Garrett Wilson and Adonai Mitchell in the wide receiver room.
Cooper, who is 22 years old, loves the way the group of wide receivers looks in New York now that he’s part of the organization. He believes he is a good fit for the Jets offense and can’t wait to start working with Wilson and Mitchell for next season.
“I feel like that is a really good group of receivers,” said Cooper about his new teammates. “We could do something special, but I mean, it ain’t gonna be given to us. We gotta go out there and prove it and earn it every single day. That’ll be really exciting. Just to be part of that group.”

Garrett Wilson is likely to remain the No. 1 option in the passing game for the next campaign, even after bouncing back from a sprain and hyperextension in his knee that forced him to miss 10 games last season. Even so, he is expected to be healthy for the start of the 2026-27 season. When on the field, he recorded 36 receptions for 395 yards and four touchdowns.
Meanwhile, Adonai Mitchell was part of the package deal the Jets acquired in the trade, sending Sauce Gardner to the Indianapolis Colts. His role increased in New York, as four of his five starts last season were with the Jets. He ended the campaign with 33 receptions, 453 yards, and two touchdowns, which were both with the Jets.
We’ll see what kind of role Omar Cooper Jr. has to begin his career. He should be competing with Mitchell for the No. 2 role from the jump, but it all depends on how training camp plays out. He ended his final season at Indiana with 69 receptions, 937 yards, and 13 touchdowns, serving as Fernando Mendoza’s go-to option in the passing game.
