NFL rumors: The minimum Dexter Lawrence trade return Giants will ‘entertain’

The New York Giants are in an awkward situation with Dexter Lawrence. New York’s superstar nose tackle requested a trade on April 6th following a contract dispute with the team. Giants GM Joe Schoen is doing everything he can to keep Lawrence on the team. But if the Giants do trade him away, it will not be at a discount.

NFL teams interested in trading for Lawrence are reportedly under the impression that New York “won’t entertain” any offer that does not include a first-round pick, per Ari Meirov of The 33rd Team. The Giants may want even more than a first-round pick in any potential Lawrence trade.

Meirov noted that Jets landed a 2027 first-round pick and a 2026 second-round pick when they traded DT Quinnen Williams to the Cowboys in 2025. That transaction may have set the floor for what New York is willing to accept for Lawrence.

NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo went on Good Morning Football on Wednesday to break down the “impasse” between Lawrence and the Giants.

“The biggest detail is the fact that Dexter Lawrence has two years left on his deal,” Garafolo explained. “It’s not like he’s going into a contract year. A lot of times, teams will sit there and say now it’s to our advantage as far as a timing standpoint. It’s not like we’re feeling the pressure of a negotiation we’re going to have to do, or of pending free agency coming up.”

Garafolo added that he doesn’t view the situation as “needing” something to happen before the 2026 NFL Draft next week.

At this point, it looks like this contract dispute could drag on throughout the summer.
