Eagles wide receiver A.J. Brown is still surrounded by trade rumors before the 2026 NFL Draft. The veteran wide receiver reportedly asked for a trade “numerous times” during the 2025 NFL season. One NFL insider believes that a trade is still a possibility at some point this offseason.
ESPN’s Adam Schefter declared that a potential trade involving Brown going from the Eagles to the Patriots is still on the table ahead of the draft.
“No matter what happens at this week’s draft, an A.J. Brown trade to the Patriots is still on the table and still tracking to happen on or after June 1, per league sources,” Schefter wrote on Monday. “The two sides have discussed a deal, but neither has been willing to commit to it until after June 1, when Brown’s $40 million salary cap charge would be split between this and next year.”
If a trade does eventually happen, it should work out well for both sides. Brown wanted to be more involved in Philadelphia’s offense in 2025. But in New England, he would be the team’s primary target in the passing game. Brown would also stay with a Super Bowl contender, as the Patriots made it all the way to the big game last season.
Philadelphia’s offseason workout program begins on Monday, but Brown is not expected to attend per NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo. He does not plan to participate while he waits for clarity on his future in Philadelphia.
It is important to note that workouts are not mandatory before June 1st. That just so happens to be when trade talks between New England and Philadelphia would likely resume.
It will be fascinating to watch both teams on draft weekend knowing a potential Brown trade looms in the distance.
