The New York Jets will be a team to watch during the 2026 NFL Draft. New York holds two first-round picks in the draft, including the second overall pick. One NFL coach recently made a bold statement about the Jets possibly drafting a quarterback in the first round.
NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero released an article on Monday revealing what teams think of this year’s quarterback class. The consensus opinion is that Alabama’s Ty Simpson will go off the board in the first round.
“I would be shocked if Ty didn’t go in the first, even though I don’t think he’s a first-round pick. We’re so desperate,” an NFC scouting director said per Pelissero. “When he’s rolling, he’s on schedule and they’re not in a true dropback game, he’s pretty damn good from an accuracy perspective and decision-making. And that changed drastically from two years ago to this last year.”
One NFL coach even suggested the possibility of the Jets drafting Simpson with the second overall pick.
“If I’m the Jets, I’m Aaron Glenn, I’m drafting the Alabama quarterback. I might even take him at No. 2 overall,” one NFC coordinator declared.
New York would have to pass on an elite defensive player to land Simpson with the second pick. It would be incredibly shocking if the Jets used a premium pick on a player like Simpson.
Meanwhile, a different source was incredibly skeptical of that idea.
“If I’m the front office or the owner, I’m absolutely not.” an AFC executive said. “He’s the second quarterback. It’s not, like, that surprising. He’s a one-year starter who had half a season of great play, really good play, and a half a season where you’re like ehh that’s probably why he’s a one-year starter. I think he sneaks into the back end (of Round 1).”
Hopefully New York makes the right decision with the second overall pick.
