Brentford have rejected Newcastle’s latest bid for Yoane Wissa, according to David Ornstein.
The transfer domino involving Alexander Isak continues to be a slow burn, with Newcastle insisting that at least one – and ideally two – replacements must be signed before his exit will be sanctioned.
Wissa has been identified as a top target to reinforce the Magpies’ attack, and the Congo DR international has gone about making his transfer desire clear in much the same way as Isak.
The 28-year-old went AWOL in pre-season and has yet to feature for Brentford, who are playing hardball over their star forward, just like Newcastle are doing with Isak.
Earlier on Wednesday, Newcastle returned with an improved bid for Wissa to finally try to unblock the situation. The St. James’ Park club offered a total package worth €46.2 million, but it still isn’t enough.
Brentford reject Wissa bid
According to David Ornstein of The Athletic, Brentford have turned down this fresh offer from Newcastle. The journalist adds that the Bees have not actually set a price tag for Wissa, so it is unclear how much they actually want for him.
Reports have suggested that Brentford are demanding as much as €70m for the versatile attacker, but it is clear that none of his suitors are willing to pay that for a 28-year-old with one year left on his contract.
Brentford’s stance is frustrating not only for Wissa and Newcastle but also for Isak and Liverpool. The Sweden international confirmed on Tuesday evening that he wants to leave the Northeast, describing the current situation as untenable.
Isak has accused Newcastle of breaking undisclosed promises and insists that his broken relationship with the club can’t be mended. Newcastle fired back in a statement of their own, expressing disappointment with Isak’s actions. They also asserted that they do not foresee any club matching their ‘conditions’ for Isak’s sale.
