No. 1 AZ Compass Prep of Arizona and other top teams in the latest FAB 50 National Team Rankings powered by Ballislife.com record key victories during NBA All-Star Weekend festivities. Another Arizona team, No. 23 Millennium (Goodyear, Ariz.), records a big in-state win as the playoffs heat up around the country. In recent years, the NBA has taken a bigger interest in basketball outside its main framework and its All-Star Weekend has turned into a celebration and showcase of basketball on all levels. The weekend includes many grassroots activations, including the Battleground L.A. vs. Everybody, an event at Crenshaw (Los Angeles) activated by Nike and Ballislife that showcased 1 v. 1 basketball, which continues to grow and has even caught the eyes of current NBA All-Stars. Another key grassroots event was the Basketball Without Borders All-Star 2026, a showcase for foreign high school-aged talent, as the NBA looks to continue to expand its global reach.
The scholastic ranks also got into the all-star act, as the 2026 Global Invitational at Cathedral (Los Angeles), the Grind Session Los Angeles All-Star Weekend at El Camino College in Torrance and Nike Basketball EYBL Scholastic Future Game at Crenshaw (Los Angeles) led the way with top teams and players.
AZ Compass Prep (Chandler, Ariz.), the No. 1 team in the FAB 50, recorded two EYBL Scholastic League wins, including a 64-63 overtime thriller over No. 25 Oak Cliff Faith Family (Dallas, Texas) late Saturday evening at Crenshaw. OCFF erased a 10-point deficit in the final 1:30 of regulation to force overtime. The game wasn’t decided until AZ Compass’ DeMarcus Henry made the game- winning free throw with 0.8 seconds remaining to break a 63-63 tie after a foul was called on his offensive rebound put back attempt. He missed the second on purpose, as the Dragons held on for the victory.
The Dragons were led by Maryland-bound point guard Kaden House with 23 points.
On Sunday, AZ Compass Prep has less trouble at the 2026 Global Invitational, defeating host and bubble club Veritas Prep (Corona, Calif.), 74-64, as Henry, one of the top junior forwards in the country, finished with 23 points, including 4-of-4 from the field, and seven rebounds. Xavier-bound guard Kalek House, Kaden’s brother, added 15.
One EYBL Scholastic team that was able to move up this week once again was fast-rising Montverde Academy (Montverde, Fla.). The Eagles rose 13 spots in last week’s FAB 50 and are up two more to No. 4 this week after recording victories over then No. 4 Brewster Academy (Wolfeboro, N.H.), 76-71, and over then No. 40 La Lumiere (La Porte, Ind.), 68-62, at the St. James Invitational in Arlington, Va. In the key win over Brewster Academy, five Eagles players hit double-digits, led by junior Javion Tyndale with 18 points and O’Neal Delancey with 17 points.
Montverde Academy does have a win over No. 2 Spire Academy (Geneva, Ohio), but also has a loss to No. 3 Wasatch Academy (Mt. Pleasant, Utah) and three more overall losses than the second-ranked club. Spire Academy is the only club to beat No. 1 AZ Compass Prep. Brewster Academy’s resume is pretty simple, as it drops one spot this week to No. 5 with its four losses coming against the top four clubs in the FAB 50. No. 6 Link Academy, which recorded a 68-62 win over No. 10 CIA Bella Vista (Phoenix, Ariz.) this weekend at Crenshaw High School behind 23 points from Davion Thompson, has lost to No. 4 Brewster Academy and to top-ranked AZ Compass Prep.
At some point, Montverde Academy’s victory over No. 2 Spire Academy will come into play, as long as the Eagles keep up their winning ways.

Millennium Avenges Loss to Sunnyslope
AZ Compass Prep is not the only Arizona team that had a big week, as the top two Arizona Interscholastic Association (AIA) clubs met for the second time this season. State No. 1 Sunnyslope (Phoenix, Ariz.) won the first meeting over state No. 2 Millennium (Goodyear, Ariz.), but in the rematch the Tigers recorded a 77-71 overtime win before at overflow crowd at home.
Millennium lost a 13-point led in the first meeting, but this time round the Tigers were better prepared and more in control. Sunnyslope, which saw a 21-game winning streak snapped, did force overtime before being outscored 13-7 in the extra period. Sunnyslope’s last loss was to No. 17 Redondo Union (Redondo Beach, Calif.), a team it was able to beat in a rematch in the title game of The Classic at Damien on Dec. 30.
Arizona-bound Cam Holmes led Millennium with 27 points, while highly-rated sophomore Adan Diggs added 22 points for a team that moved up four spots in the FAB 50 to No. 23. Sunnyslope, which received 21 points from Colorado-bound Rider Portela and 18 points from point guard Delton Prescott in defeat, falls behind Redondo Union and Millennium nine spots to No. 23.
Millennium’s other losses are to No. 32 IMG Academy (Bradenton, Fla.) and to No. 21 Wheeler (Marietta, Ga.). Despite the recent loss, Sunnyslope opens as the top seed, with Millennium No. 2, in the AIA Open Division playoffs, which begin Feb. 18. The title game is slated for March 7 and there could be a third match between Millennium and Sunnyslope.
Redondo Union is currently competing in the CIF Southern Section open playoffs and is looking to play in the CIFSS open title game on Feb. 28 before advancing to the CIF regional playoffs.
High school basketball continues to reach bigger platforms and the competition is beginning to heat up across the country.

Note: The FAB 50 powered by Ballislife.com is a continuation of the National Sports News Service ratings that began in 1952. These were the first national high school rankings and the late Art Johlfs of Minnesota compiled them. They were compiled for many years by the late Barry Sollenberger of Phoenix, who merged them into the FAB 50 26 years ago.
