National Bank Open 2025 Quarterfinal Preview: Fritz, Shelton, Osaka and Keys Look to Make Final Four

Tuesday’s ATP Tour and WTA Results and Previews from Toronto and Montreal

Tuesday’s action at the National Bank Open in Toronto, Canada will see No. 2 seed Taylor Fritz bid for a semifinal spot at the year’s sixth Masters 1000 event, taking on defending finalist and No. 6 seed Andrey Rublev from Russia.

Owning a 5-4 head-to-head lead over Rubelv, Fritz has collected two titles on the year and recently made the Wimbledon semifinals.

Rublev has won one title in Doha, Qatar earlier in 2025, and made the finals in Hamburg, Germany. He also made the fourth-round of both Wimbledon and the French Open.

The day’s second semifinal will feature No. 4 seed Ben Shelton going up against No. 9 seed and recent Washington, D.C. winner Alex de Minuar.

The pair have never played on Tour. Shelton has reached the fourth-round or better of every Major in 2025.

De Minuar made the finals in Toronto in 2023, losing to current world No. 1 Jannik Sinner.

Monday’s results in Toronto saw top seed Alexander Zverev defeat defending champion Alexi Popyrin 6-7(8), 6-4, 6-3, and No. 11 seed Karen Khachanov dispatch No. 28 seed Alex Michelsen 6-4, 7-6(3).

Former Slam Winners Keys and Osaka in Action

Former Slam winners Naomi Osaka and Madison Keys will look to reach the semifinals in Montreal on Tuesday, facing Clara Tauson, and Elina Svitolina, respectively.

Tauson upset reigning Wimbledon winner Iga Swiatek in the fourth-round.

Keys, who won the Australian Open this year, trails Tauson 1-0 in career head-to-head meetings. Keys has earned an impressive 35-10 record on the season.

The day’s second semifinal will feature Osaka taking a 4-3 lead over Svitolina.

The Japanese star has found some form this week in Montreal and will be eager to keep her momentum going with the year’s final Major in NYC starting later this month.

Svitolina defeated No. 5 seed and Wimbledon finalist Amanda Anisimova in the fourth round. Osaka ousted No. 13 seed Liudmila Samsonova, and No. 22 seed Jelena Ostapenko earlier in the event. Osaka is currently ranked No. 34 in the world.

On Monday night, Canada’s Victoria Mboko continued her rise up the rankings by defeating Jessica Bouzas Maneiro 6-4, 6-2.

Mboko has lost one set throughout her first, five matches and will next face Elena Rybakina for a place in the finals.

Rybakina advanced when her opponent Marta Kostyuk was forced to retire trailing 6-1, 2-1.

Rybakina won her lone slam title at Wimbledon in 2022.
