The Pittsburgh Steelers have plenty of questions heading into the upcoming 2026 NFL Draft, which is slated to begin later this week. The Steelers have a major hole on their roster at the quarterback position, with Will Howard and Mason Rudolph currently the only two players at that position on the roster.
Recently, buzz has been picking up that the team could look to add Alabama draft prospect Ty Simpson this week, and now, newly minted Pittsburgh head coach Mike McCarthy has given a tight-lipped outlook on those rumors.
“I think it’s important to always add to it, if you can – but he has to fit,” said McCarthy, on the team’s QB room, per Chris Adamski of the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review on X, formerly Twitter.
Of course, the big question hanging over the Steelers at the current juncture regards quarterback Aaron Rodgers and what the future may have in store for him. Rodgers played solid football for Pittsburgh last year, in his first season with the franchise, but that came to a screeching halt in the playoffs against the Houston Texans and their elite defense, causing some to wonder if that loss might have been it for Rodgers on his future Hall of Fame career.
Meanwhile, Simpson has garnered mixed reviews as a pro QB prospect heading into the draft, with many expecting him to be the first name taken off the board after Indiana’s Fernando Mendoza, although how many picks later that will be remains to be seen.
In any case, the 2026 NFL Draft is slated to get underway on Thursday evening, coincidentally taking place in Pittsburgh this year.
